Addressing Adobe Flash End-of-Life on HCL Commerce

The clock is ticking. Adobe Flash end-of-life is fast approaching for all applications, including for Management Center on HCL Commerce Version 7.
Yes, if you haven’t heard, Adobe announced it will stop updating and distributing its Flash Player on January 1, 2021. This means any enterprise on what was formerly known as IBM WebSphere Commerce V7 Management Center will stop functioning from that date forward.
While HCL has done a good job of communicating about this change, the fact is some enterprises may not have a timely backup plan in place. LiveArea continues to support enterprises on this down-level version of the commerce platform, so we are actively developing mitigation plans for customers. Here are answers to frequently asked questions we’ve received.
Q: Can Flash end-of-life be delayed? Can we get special dispensation?
A: No, unfortunately, you cannot delay this action.
Q: Will Management Center stop working?
A: Yes, it will.
Q: Are there workarounds to remediate this action?
A: Yes, we have solutions that may be right for your enterprise – in the interim. Reach out to the LiveArea team for a consult on alternatives. Technology teams in affected enterprises are encouraged to review support information in the HCL Software blog.
Q: Are Versions 8 and 9 of HCL Commerce affected?
A: No, they are not. There will be no issue with later versions of the software.
Q: What’s the best long-term solution?
A: The best solution is to migrate from Version 7 of HCL Commerce to Version 9 – of course, this can’t be accomplished by January 1. However, you should start planning now because Version 7 will reach end-of-life in April 2021.
Keep in mind, there are many reasons to migrate to the more current version of HCL Commerce, including enhanced functionality. LiveArea has considerable expertise in migrating to Version 9 and we have a broad portfolio of rapid development tools, prebuilt integrations, scalable methodologies, and offer broad capabilities to deliver best-in-class commerce systems.
